James Harrison announces his retirement from the NFL

Regardless of whose fandom in the NFL you pledge your loyalty to, there is a level of respect that must be paid to former Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who has officially announced his retirement from the NFL via his Instagram page.

Harrison finished his career with 573 tackles, 84.5 sacks, 34 forced fumbles, and 8 interceptions. He also won 2008 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and was a pro bowler five times.

The bitter taste of Harrison leaving for the Patriots after being cut by the Steelers, in a way that upset many fans, still resides for some. Even though the break up between the two teams was less than graceful, he will still forever be considered a Steelers legend.

Now Harrison will be able to take more time with his children, which he expressed he did not do enough of in the post announcing his retirement. Chances are the NFL icon will shy away from the public light as his career now ends, and he will be able to enjoy retirement correctly.
