Steelers Schedule 2022: Dates & times for all 17 games, strength of schedule, and other record information

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter their 89th year in the NFL in 2022. And with it will come several new challenges. One of those being the departure of future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger of course retired following the Steelers loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round of the 2021 NFL playoffs last season.

The Steelers playoff hopes came down to the wire last season. They had to win in the final week at Baltimore, and hope that a Sunday night battle between the Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers didn’t end up in a tie. The unthinkable nearly happened, but finally a last second field goal by the Raiders sent the Steelers into the playoffs.

Now the Steelers will turn to veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, or rookie Kenny Pickett to lead them back for the second consecutive season.

The Steelers finished second in the AFC North last season, as a result they will play a home game against the Raiders and road games against the Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles. All three of those teams finished second in their respective divisions triggering games against the second place Steelers.

Steelers strength of schedule

The Steelers 2022 opponents finished the 2021 campaign with a record of 148-141. Which results in the Steelers having the 12th toughest schedule of 2022.

Among their opponents will be the defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals. Pittsburgh will play their division foes twice, once in Pittsburgh, and once in Cincinnati. The Bengals have beaten the Steelers three straight times going back to 2020. The Steelers last win came on Nov 15, 2020 in a 36-10 rout at Heinz Field.

NFC Tests: Former AFC foe Tom Brady will lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into Pittsburgh for a week 6 battle. Brady holds a 12-3 record against the Steelers during his career with the New England Patriots. The Steelers will have to travel to Philadelphia for a Halloween battle with the Eagles. Pittsburgh is notoriously bad against the Eagles only winning 29 games in 80 tries against their across state rival.

East Coast Baby! The Steelers will have one direct advantage. They won’t need to leave the eastern time zone the entire regular season. That means a lot less travel time, and it means zero west coast trips. That’s good because the Steelers have notoriously struggled on the west coast under Tomlin.
