The Steelers made a minor roster move this afternoon. Wide Receiver Canaan Severin was released to make room for Linebacker Austin Gearing.
Severin signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent last season and was having a solid training camp before an injury landed him on injured reserve. He was released briefly in May but re-signed two weeks later. Severin most likely would've been one of the odd men out on a highly talented group of receivers. Injuries on the defensive side at the outside linebacker position may have prompted this move.
Gearing had a try out with the Steelers in May but was not offered a contract. He will be making the switch from defensive end to outside linebacker on the Steelers.
