Mike Mitchell Is Gone For Good?

On March 20, 2018, free agent safety Morgan Burnett flew to Pittsburgh Tuesday morning and signed a 3-year deal worth $14.5 million.

While fans are pleased the team is finally making moves during free agency, especially on defense. One can’t help but wonder if signing Burnett meant the Steelers have officially closed the door on Mike Mitchell.

Mitchell was released by the Steelers on March 14, the day Free Agency began. Releasing the former Steelers Safety freed up $5 million towards the team’s salary cap.

According to NFL Network’s reporter Ian Rapoport, Pittsburgh was open to bringing back Mitchell for a lower price. Finding out the Steelers signed Burnett, Mitchell went on social media to voice his thoughts.

It is clear to say Mitchell was not pleased. The former Steelers Safety will have to find another team to play for. After letting his frustration out, Mitchell posted on Instagram days later to thank the team, fans, and give what will most likely be a final goodbye.

It has been an incredible four years and I want to thank the Pittsburgh Steelers for the opportunity to play for such a legendary organization. Everyone knows the passion that I displayed for this team and city, and Steelers Nation has been a huge part of that. I cannot thank my fans enough for their unwavering support. My experiences here will always hold a special place in my heart. I have grown so much as a player and more important as a man during my time spent with this organization. I played for great coaches who helped me refine my craft, and I am so appreciative for their dedication to myself and teammates. My teammates have really become my brothers and those are bonds that were not created in vain! The logo on my uniform may change, but I remain the same man, teammate and player. I look forward seeing what new opportunities will present themselves and I promise to bring my same mentality and passion with me as I start my next chapter. #5OR50
