Since playoffs aren’t apart of the Pittsburgh Steelers future from this past season, the most important decisions to be made are the ones dealing with free agency this off-season. The most difficult decision for the team, and even the fans to have to come to terms with, will be the placement of linebacker, Ryan Shazier.

Missing the last two seasons, Shazier has continued to make progress with the back injury from a head-on-hit while playing against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017. After that season, the Steelers honored the linebacker’s fifth-year option contracting him to $8.718 million while on the Injured Reserve List.

This past season, the Steelers gave Shazier a one-year contract worth $473,000 and this off-season is still up in the air. The team will again have to decide on Shazier’s potential for coming back for the team and suiting up again.

As amazing as it would be for fans and teammates to see Shazier back on the field for the black and gold, the reality could be a little different. The team will have to decide if he is able to come back or take a different route with his role with the Steelers.

Ryan Shazier and the Pittsburgh Steelers have had an understanding that he wouldn’t be back until at least the 2020 season, and that isn’t even near confirmed.

What do you think, Steeler Nation? Will Shazier suit up for the Steelers again, or will he take on a different role with the team? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see him play again , but realistically , his life , and health are SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than playing the game , or coming back too soon , if ever.
That being said , I really hope that he does stay with the team in some capacity.

He should not play again too risky ,if he got permanently disabled ,the Steeler would look irresponsible for letting him play .Make him a linebacker coach for 20 years and pay him a a pension when he retires .

I agree with you 100%, the Steelers will keep Shazire, he will either get another 1 year deal or placed on the Team in some capacity. In my heart I do not believe the Steelers will abandon him without exploring every possible way to keep him a Steeler.

He would make a great coach for the Steelers.

I don’t see him coming back but with that being said I won’t put anything past Ryan from playing again. He has more fortitude than any player I’ve seen since Mario Lemieux. So I say let’s watch for the next chapter in Ryan Shaziers book.

I also would love to see him play again. There hs just no way to return from this kind of injury and play at the same level he played at before the injury.

I think he should go into a coaching position!!! He doesn’t need to risk his body for The Black and Gold!!! He is a Steeler for life!!!

There is absolutely no way he will suit up as a player again in my mind but they also said he wouldn’t walk again?! Would be cool but for his health I don’t think so

I don’t think he will suit up again and play. He is not far enough along in his rehab to do that. In my opinion, it would be safer to just make him a LB Coach

I don’t care if Shazier has a back injury give him the contract. He seems to be a great motivator and if we could get him on the field we would be that much better.

Don’t know if he has coaching abilities. I’m not qualified. Steelers did well by him. They proved they are loyal. Now it’s too bad for other people in similar circumstances that they do not get the same oppertunity. I wish him luck and good health.

It would be great to see him as a coach for the Steelers. Does anyone really want the risk of him getting injured again and it be worse (paralyzed)? I am not questioning his grit, resilience, strength, and ability to come back. I just don’t think the risk of a serious life changing injury is worth him being in pads again.

He is a great linebacker…would love to see him back..BUT..because of the serious injury and no one knows what the next hit could do if I had a say I would offer him a position coaching new linebackers how he did what he did so well…

Would love to see him play again but if he can’t I think he should stay with the Steelers in a coaching position we could use the help. We love are number 50!

As much as I would love to see Ryan suited up to start the 2020 season, I’m concerned that his injury would not allow him to play on a level that did in the past and with that be detrimental to him. He would be more of an asset to the team in a coaching capacity. Allow him to practice in spring training and let him decide which path to follow. He is a gifted and intelligent young man and I know he will make the decision that is both right for himself and the team.

I do not think he will or should play again, but the decision is up to him and the Steelers. I would absolutely hate to see him with any other organization, so the Steelers must find a place for him in the organization. I know, given the kind of man that he is, that he would make a fantastic LB coach and would work harder than anyone to be a success at it.

It’s too dangerous for him to attempt to come back I’m happy to see him at this point walking around take that gift and move on an be grateful for that ????

Love to see him play again, but don’t think it would be wise. I think a new defensive coach would be good..

Ryan shazier is a great blessed player with the intention of playing with the Steelers again. But is a great asset to the team. Maybe a Defense coordinator coach or L.B. coach. But please don’t release him! Steelers nation for life!

As much as I’d like to see him suit up again, I feel he would better serve Steelers Nation in a different capacity. #shazierstrong
