LONDON - Tuesday, the NFL announced the September 2019 launch of an institutional academy in London, England. This academy will be centered around education, character development, and of course, football. It will bring student athletes (about 80 total, ages 16-18) a chance to learn life skills, train, and create pathways into employment and further education (even a chance to play in the NCAA). This will be all while under the supervision of full-time coaches.
Being as it will be endorsed by some of today's biggest superstars, as well as high-end brands such as Nike, one name that might sound a bit familiar is Pittsburgh Steelers' star wide out, JuJu Smith-Schuster. Along with Smith-Schuster includes WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Cleveland Browns), QB Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs), RB Jay Ajayi (Philadelphia Eagles), and Hall of Fame wide receiver, Jerry Rice.
Smith-Schuster and co. will look to “help mentor the student-athletes," and create "life-changing educational and professional opportunities for young people" via NFL.com.
More to come.
