Steelers select Terrell Edmunds with 28th Pick

After an emotional entrance by Ryan Shazier we learned that the Steelers had selected Virginia Tech Safety Terrell Edmunds. Edmunds was not the pick many were expecting. This pick seems to have a similar feel as when Bud Dupree was selected. Edmunds has great size, speed, length and an elite ability to change direction but like Dupree he will need some time to refine all those skills. This past year Edmunds had 59 tackles, 2.5 for loss, he intercepted two passes, and had four pass break ups. His season ended after 10 games due to an injury to his shoulder which he had been playing through for the majority of the season. Edmunds will not need to become a starter immediately with both Morgan Burnett and Sean Davis both on the roster.

Since this pick was a little surprising due to defensive backs Justin Reid and Josh Jackson both still on the board, it is easy to dive deep into the pick and become upset that the Steelers did not draft one of the other “higher ranked” players. It is important to understand that the Steelers franchise knows what they’re doing. Of course they will occasionally miss on a prospect (Jarvis Jones), every team does, but it is way too early to become upset. Everyone went up in arms when Artie Burns was selected and now he is a starting caliber player on a rising defense. Edmunds is a very quality player who performed well playing with injury and with some coaching who knows, he could become a star. I suggest visiting youtube and searching for highlights on Edmunds, the kid is fun to watch. Have some faith SteelerNation.
