With only two more open practices left in this year's training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers took the field for another training session without pads. Today's storylines include a new addition to the Steelers roster, one-handed interceptions becoming a trend, and some confusion regarding a running back's potential injury status.

So Steelers fans,  let's go!

Injury Report

Prior to the beginning of practice, the Steelers announced the signing of former 4th round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, tackle Zach Banner in place of tackle Kyle Meadows who was placed on injured waivers.

On the field, outside linebacker TJ Watt who has been inactive after sustaining a hamstring injury on day four was seen going through warm-ups as reported by "Locked on Steelers" host Tony Serino and DKPittsburghSports Steelers reporter Dale Lolley. The list of players that did not participate in today's session includes Bud Dupree (concussion), Vance McDonald (foot), Bj Finney (Thigh), Sean Davis (groin), Xavier Grimble (thumb), and Ramon Foster (knee).

Camp News and Notes

  • The Steelers defense put together a dominant performance this afternoon in the 'seven shots' drill. The score noted by Serino in his report was either 6 -1 or 7-0. The most notable moment was linebacker LJ Fort's one-handed interception on quarterback Joshua Dobbs, whose pass was intended for rookie Jaylen Samuels.

  • Speaking of one-handed interceptions, cornerback Artie Burns Jr. had one on a pass intended for receiver Damoun Patterson during one of the drills, which got rave reviews from DKPittsburghSports analyst Christopher Carter's report.

  • In the latest installment of the Brown vs Burns training camp rivalry, Brown was able to get a first down reception from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger despite tight coverage by Burns as described by Carter in his report.

  • Despite this blemish, Burns by all accounts has a solid afternoon, described by Serino as "another shut-down corner type day".

  • Inside linebacker Jon Bostic was reported making good plays in pass coverage. One of many reasons Bostic was signed by the Steelers was due to this very aspect, which was well represented this afternoon according to Carter.

  • Speaking of strong linebacker play, undrafted free agent outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi continues to strengthen his case for a roster spot with plays such as this on offensive tackle Joseph Cheek.

Reported by Senior Steelers sports writer Mark Kaboly, running back James Conner was spotted icing his groin and did not finish today's session. However, in a later update, reporter Lolley noted that his early departure was not injury related. No confirmation has yet been given regarding Conner's potential injury status. This will certainly be a storyline to follow in the next upcoming days.
