Gilbert was the 8th overall draft pick in the 2014 draft by the Cleveland Browns. After struggling for two seasons in Cleveland the Browns traded Gilbert to the Steelers for a 2018 6th round draft choice. Gilbert only recorded three tackles in 12 games for the Steelers. Gilbert's career likely ends with only one career interception. Gilbert is currently a free agent after being released by the Steelers in February.
