As the 2019 NFL Draft live from Nashville, Tennessee approaches, we’ll be continuing to take a deeper look each week into the potential first-round picks the Pittsburgh Steelers could draft.
Next up, Greedy Williams, CB, LSU
The Steelers have been trying to correct their secondary since Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu left town several years ago. They spent high draft picks, multiple draft picks, and tested the undrafted free agent market. What did they get them?
Mike Hilton. A diamond of the undrafted kind. He's started almost every game for two seasons at the slot corner spot and has played well. But it's been the outside corner spot opposite of Joe Haden that has been the issue.
Haden was gifted to the Steelers by the Browns prior to 2017. He's been solid, but they need someone that can take away the other side of the field too.
That brings us to Greedy Williams. He's tall at 6'2 and fast. The Steelers seem to always prefer tall corners, but end up with 5'9 guys.
Williams has the physical ability to play at the line of scrimmage on receivers. With the Steelers moving to a man to man system that should be a top trait they're looking for at this position.
Something that could keep the Steelers away is his tackling ability. He often takes poor angles and misses in the open field. Typically the Steelers expect their corners to come up in run support, but now could be the time to over look that in an effort to find a playmaker.
Williams has a strong first round projection.
