Promising Prospects: Trayvon Mullens CB

As the 2019 NFL Draft live from Nashville, Tennessee approaches, we’ll be continuing to take a deeper look each week into the potential first-round picks the Pittsburgh Steelers could draft.

Next up, Trayvon Mullens, CB, Clemson.

6-2 195

Cornerback is a strong position of need for the Steelers. Veteran Joe Haden isn't getting any younger, and Artie Burns doesn't seem to be getting any better.

That's where Mullens comes into play. The corner from Clemson seems to have mixed feelings from scouts. I've seen him being projected as a first round pick to a third or fourth. But his size and speed should bring him towards the first day of the draft. It also didn't hurt him to have his best game of the season in the biggest.

Against Alabama in the National Championship, he had six tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception.

Mullens doesn't have the initial name recognition as some of the other corners coming out of the draft, but he could have the best raw talent. The Steelers don't necessarily need a project, but with the free agent cornerback market not being very strong Mullens could be the Steelers beat option if some of the other top corners are off the board at #20.
