The Pittsburgh Steelers organization is looking into ways to protect season ticket holders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, all season ticket holders received an email pushing back the date to pay for the season from May 1 to June 1; but there was no option to skip a season and retain your tickets (something other teams in the NFL have). The Steelers did say that any games not played would be credited towards next year’s costs.
As the June 1 date draws closer, some ticket holders have been reaching out to the club asking for them to reconsider the option to skip a year and still retain season ticket holder status. The Steelers are lucky to have a lengthy waiting list for season tickets, but they don’t want to see people lose tickets that have been in their families for generations. In an interview with KDKA’s Andy Sheehan, Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said that policy is now under review.
“We’re continuing to work with the league and reviewing this to see if there’s a fan-friendly and fair policy to be crafted. Meanwhile, we are encouraging season ticket holders to contact us directly if they have concerns,” said Lauten.
