Steelers Minority Owner says League needs Proactive Approach

Thomas Tull is a very smart man. He is the CEO of Legendary Entertainment where he's produced several movies. Most notably the Dark Knight Rises, and The Dark Knight. His current net worth is reportedly over 1 billion dollars. He's also part minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Obviously Tull has an interest in the NFL's future because of a connection to the Steelers, and recently during an interview at the 2017 NeuLion Sports Media & Technology conference he spoke about the leagues need to be more proactive.

“There’s a lot of things we need to do better,” Tull said. “The first step is to assess what about the league is compelling and what things we need to need to do a better job of. We need to be more proactive, but that’s probably stating the obvious.”

A starting point for Tull would be with the National Anthem protests and debacle that has made the NFL a laughing stock in some circles. Tull thinks the NFL and the NFL Players Association should've got together a long time ago to look for a solution.

“There could have been dialogue last year, getting together with the NFLPA,” Tull said. “We need to look at threats to the game and work with our players.”

Different reports about viewership and attendance will tell you whatever narrative that you're looking for, but the simple fact is that a lot of people are turning the NFL off. Taking steps back isn't something that the NFL Owners and Commissioner Roger Goodell want to do.

For many years the NFL has sat back and played dumb when situations have arised. They've mostly survived difficult situations until the Ray Rice video was released. The heat was turned on then and now with the Anthem protests and the Ezekiel Elliott saga Goodell has to be feeling the flames.
