It seems like the New England Patriots are playing for the Lombardi trophy every year. In fact, the Patriots have been in the last 3 Super Bowls, and each of those years, I had to find a new NFC team to root for. In 2016, I got to cheer on the Atlanta Falcons on their way to a rout in the first half, only to suffer the single greatest comeback victory in Super Bowl history in overtime. 2017 saw the Philadelphia Eagles upset the mighty Patriots utilizing the only play no one had film of -- "The Philly Special". Then 2018 had me rooting for a city that didn’t even have a team before the Pats started their most recent Super Bowl run. The Los Angeles Rams put up a lackluster effort in the most boring Super Bowl since the 70's.
It was so easy to know who I was rooting for in the Super Bowl when I had a team that I just enjoyed rooting against soooo much! Why should I be so critical of the Patriots when all they do is win? They have a mastermind at head coach that values fundamentals over talent. They have a QB that has been in and won more championships than anyone else in history. That QB is married to a supermodel. I mean they have everything going for them, right?
So why should I hate them so much? For one, the Pittsburgh Steelers can’t seem to beat them in the playoffs. The Patriots also are on their third cheating scandal, where they were docked first round draft picks after the first two. The cheating aspect is something football fans tend to be the most upset about. After Major League Baseball just suspended the Houston Astros GM and Manager for a year for stealing signs, you'd think the NFL would be just as harsh to a repeat offender? Sadly, no. The Patriots were caught red handed, yet again, in Cincinnati video taping signs from the team they were set to play the following week. Since the NFL has yet to rule on that repeat offense, all fans are left with is misplaced angst and no team to hate this Super Bowl.
So now that the Kansas City Chiefs are playing the San Francisco 49ers in Miami in 2 weeks, I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy a football game with two teams, I don’t hate.
Who do you hate the least? Let us know your Super Bowl picks below in the comments.
