With the Pittsburgh Steelers' second of three picks in the sixth round, Isaiah Buggs, DT out of Alabama has been selected at 192 overall.
Notes on Buggs from NFL.com:
Base end in college who will be moving to defensive tackle on a full-time basis in the pros. Buggs has the body type, play strength and quickness to make a full-time transition inside as a one- or two-gapper, but he needs to play with more consistent resolve. He has some talent to win quickly as a rusher, but his testing numbers in quickness and explosiveness have been very poor and will likely cause him to drop.
Strengths
- Compact, powerful build and broad through waist and hips
- Fires out of his stance with short, quick steps
- Quick to find the neutral zone first
- Has bend to sink and root up under blocker's pads at point of attack
- Natural ability to drop weight and create some anchor
- lower-body strength and leverage allow for sharp pivots under guard's edge
- Early upfield explosiveness fits interior model
- Lateral quickness to beat blockers to the spot
- Marginal foot quickness on edge becomes above-average inside
- Smooth on the move as twisting rusher
- Has some reps as shade nose tackle under his belt
Weaknesses
Short arms do him no favors
Loses frame to long-armed tackles
Can struggle to maintain his early control at the point
Lacks flexibility and lateral twitch for short-area tackle success
Needs to refine hand work for potential move to interior
Can be a little stiff-kneed at point of attack
Fatigue causes his motor to sputter
Secondary effort can be hit or miss
