Free Agent Lineman Steelers Should Sign

With less than a week until the Pittsburgh Steelers start training camp, we look at one last player the Steelers should sign. There are only a few holes left on the roster that need addressing before the Steelers head up to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo Bills and offensive tackle is a huge one. The Steelers have a completely revamped offensive line that needs some serious veteran presence and the guy for the job would be free agent, Mitchell Schwartz.

After the Steelers inked free agent Melvin Ingram to a $4 million contract this Monday afternoon, they have approximately $9 million left in cap space. They could defer the contract of Stephon Tuitt and open up a couple more million if needed, but the Steelers could definitely bring in a veteran lineman in Schwartz for less than $9 million.

Schwartz, who spent his first 9 seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs, is coming off a season ending injury in 2020 which is why he is still a free agent. Up until 2020, Schwartz hadn't missed a start in his entire career since being drafted in 2012 out of the University of California.

The Steelers do have some serious question marks along the offensive line and a four-time All Pro tackle would surely help secure the line for the Steelers. There are only a few serviceable players left that could make a significant difference along the line and Schwartz is a player the Steelers should go after. With only a few days left until the Steelers open training camp, let's hope they make a move that would ensure great depth on the offensive line.
