The Pittsburgh Steelers have a few holes to fill in their roster over the next couple of months. Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report listed one free agent for each NFL team that he thinks would be a great addition to their squads. The Steelers could be looking to sign a cornerback and/or inside linebacker in free agency to bolster the defense. On the offensive side, an extra body at WR or on the OL could help quarterback Kenny Pickett going into his second year.

Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds celebrates his interception.
Current free agent inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is noted as the Steelers’ “Dream Signing.” Edmunds (24) has been linked to Pittsburgh over the last few months, even referenced as an "ideal landing spot" a couple of weeks ago. The main connections start with his brother. Terrell Edmunds has been great at the back of the Steelers’ defense for five years now, holding down the fort with Minkah Fitzpatrick for the last four.
Terrell is also currently a free agent, but has openly stated that he would like to return. Bringing the versatile safety back would not only be great for the defense, but also help in a potential contract with Tremaine. Terrell brought up the thought of him and his brother when talking about re-signing, saying he would love a package deal where their parents don't have to be split up every week. Alex goes on to give his thoughts on the potential Steelers’ signing:
“Tremaine Edmunds is ostensibly looking for a place where he can get paid and continue to ascend. He’s still only 24 years old, despite completing five seasons in the league.”

While giving Edmunds a contract might sound great on paper, Pittsburgh’s cap space and his projected market value could put a wrench in the family reunion. As Bleacher Report mentions, Tremaine is still very young at 24 years old, but comes with some needed experience for the Steelers. While his contract could be tricky to make work, his athleticism, tackling, and coverage skills would make it absolutely worth it come free agency. Alex gives his final remarks on Edmunds and the Steelers and what he would bring to the defense:
“Plugging [Edmunds] in alongside [Myles] Jack would give the Steelers an injection of youth and flexibility to take the next step in 2023.”
Steelers Also Losing a Piece
The article listed one current Steelers’ free agent as a “dream signing” for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cornerback Shaquill Griffin was released on Wednesday, a move that saved over $13 million for Jacksonville. Ballentine gives his thoughts on what the Jaguars should use that money for:
“[Jacksonville] would be smart to take that money directly to Cameron Sutton and apply it towards a contract for the corner.”

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Cam Sutton.
Sutton has played in Pittsburgh his whole career, providing above average cornerback play for six seasons. His last three years have been nothing short of great, with the most recent season possibly being his best. Sutton held quarterbacks to a 65.3 passer rating and snagged three interceptions during his 2022 campaign. Pittsburgh would 100% like for him to return, but more money could possibly be had elsewhere. Losing Sutton to Jacksonville would be a big blow to the Steelers’ defense and give the Jaguars a top cornerback duo with Tyson Campbell.
Would you like to Tremaine Edmunds come to Pittsburgh alongside his brother? If the Steelers lose Cam Sutton in free agency, who would you like to see take his spot? Let us know in the comments below.
