One school that doesn’t get as much attention as the SEC, ACC, or Big 12 conferences for example, is the University of South Florida. This school in particular has three stars on their roster that Steelers fans should absolutely be on the lookout for.
1. Mac Harris (LB)
Harris profiles more of an outside linebacker who plays with tremendous discipline. Scouts say that he might not have natural explosiveness, but he brings in-game play that coaches truly value. The Steelers already have TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and Jack Sawyer, but with Herbig’s expiring contract this upcoming season, Pittsburgh may already be looking to retool the position.

Harris would be solid depth, and a capable special teams player early on. He stands at 6'0", almost 230 pounds, and is a great downhill gap attacker. He's a great blitzer and has tremendous change of direction.
2. Jhalyn Shuler (LB)
Shuler however, might actually be the most intriguing prospect. He may have the highest ceiling and he profiles more like a middle linebacker. Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, and Malik Harrison all came under fire in 2025 with their play, and Shuler could be a late-round thumper ready to make a name for himself. His athleticism jumps off the page, as he was actually a multi-sport athlete.

He’s instinctive, and fits the mold of what the Steelers want to accomplish on defense. He's got good size at 6'3" and over 200 pounds, and he's a striker in both space, and near the line of scrimmage.
3. Zane Herring (OL)
On the offensive side of the ball, Herring is extremely versatile, but his natural position is guard. The Steelers love when their linemen can play multiple positions, and Herring does exactly that. With the loss of Isaac Seumalo this offseason to the Arizona Cardinals in free agency, beefing up the O-line will be a priority. Herring is originally a transfer from Florida State, and has shown to be a quick shooter with his hands. He's 6'5", 319 pounds, and was a 2023 All-ACC Honorable Mention.

All three players aren’t expected to hear their names on Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft, but they could be diamonds in the rough for the Black and Gold come Day 3.
