Actively Predicting the Inactive List: Week 14

Something happened this past week that hasn’t happened all season for the Pittsburgh Steelers -- there were no new injuries reported after playing the game! That is great news heading into the last month, where injuries can derail playoff hopes.

The Steelers will again be without JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner, since they were ruled out for this week’s game. Conner was limited all week and JuJu did not practice at all.

Mark Barron was the only surprise this week. He was held out of practice on Wednesday, practiced fully on Thursday, and was limited on Friday. He has not been given a game designation, so it looks good that he will suit up on Sunday.

Artie Burns was not listed on the injury report and has practiced fully all week. Since he is no longer questionable, I expect him to be active on Sunday

I track and try to predict timelines for Steeler players returning to the field. This is a link to our current spreadsheet. It will update on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after the practice reports are issued, as well as Post-Game and Tuesday after Coach Tomlin's press conferences. Bookmark it to see how the health of the Steelers are shaping up each week.

I believe the inactive players will be:

  1. Paxton Lynch: 3rd QB Inactive
  2. JuJu Smith-Schuster: Listed as out and won’t play
  3. James Conner: Listed as out and won’t play
  4. Zach Gentry: Being redshirted. He shouldn’t be active.
  5. Chukwuma Okorafor: The Steelers usually rest him and this is an instance where he should be a healthy scratch again
  6. Tuzar Skipper: He hasn’t been on the team long and was inactive last week
  7. Justin Layne: With Artie Burns fully healthy, Justin Layne may be the one sitting out on Sunday

Do you think someone else will sit instead?  Comment below and let us know your selections.
