Actively Predicting the Inactive List: Week 9

By G.Stryker:

Jaylen Samuels practiced fully last week and this week.  It’s been a month since his surgery, so the soft tissue should be 100% healed and he should not only play, but should start this week.  Running backs are thin this week since both James Conner (AC Joint/Doubtful) and Benny Snell Jr (Knee Surgery/Out) both failed to practice after getting injured Monday night.  Not to mention Roosevelt Nix was limited in practice on Friday, so his game status is up in the air since he’s listed as questionable..

Ramon Foster is still in concussion protocol, and did not practice.  He has not cleared protocol and was listed as out this week.  Ulysees Gilbert, Dan McCullers, and Maurkice Pouncey all practiced this week and are not listed on the injury list for this game, so they all should be playing.

I track and try to predict timelines for Steeler players returning to the field. This is a link to our current spreadsheet. It will update on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after the practice reports are issued, as well as Post-Game and Tuesday after Coach Tomlin's press conferences. I believe the inactive players will be:

  1. Paxton Lynch: 3rd QB Inactive
  2. Ramon Foster: Still in concussion protocol and is listed as out
  3. Benny Snell Jr: Had surgery on his meniscus. Will be out 1-2 weeks while soft tissue recovers.  Listed as out
  4. James Conner: Hurt his shoulder on Monday night and didn’t practice.  He’s also listed as doubtful. On a short week, it is best to rest him this game.
  5. LT Walton: Welcome back to the team.  He sat last week and should again this week.
  6. Zach Gentry: Doesn’t give much on special teams and it appears as though he’s being ‘redshirted’ this season
  7. Roosevelt Nix: This is a tough call.  Much like Ulysees Gilbert last week, Nix had a setback in the last practice and is listed as questionable.  On a short week with his knee being an issue missing 5 games, I believe the Steelers will again err on the side of caution and allow Nix to rest this game.

Do you think someone else will sit instead?  Comment below and let us know your selections.
