On Wednesday, August 26th, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger teamed up with Triblive.com and YouTube and presented all of SteelerNation with a little insight into how these past couple of seasons has played out for the 5-time Pro Bowler.
We haven’t heard much from Roethlisberger. Throughout all of the outside noise and drama, he has stayed quiet. Well now he has decided to open up and created a platform for him to share his thoughts and he is doing it all on his own terms.
The past couple of seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers have been nothing short of a struggle. Yes, the record’s were there, we always have star players, and we always find a way to put a competitive team out there. But the struggle seemed to lie more in the form of challenging the mental state of the team and the organization -- which is something the Steelers aren’t used to. At the forefront of that (which was out of his control) was Ben Roethlisberger.
Some well known drama came from former Steelers WR Antonio Brown going to the national media to call out the Steelers organization due to the fact that they held Roethlisberger in a higher regard than most players (in Brown's opinion). Brown put Roethlisberger’s leadership into question and berated the future Hall of Fame QB every chance he got. All of the sports media were shaming Roethlisberger’s leadership style, looking at everything he did through a microscope. Roethlisberger stayed quiet with high hopes that his play would do the talking that upcoming season, proving everyone wrong.
That wasn’t the case, but again for a reason that Roethlisberger could not control. He was injured in Week 2 of the 2019 season in the 2nd quarter of a home game against the Seattle Seahawks with what appeared to be an elbow injury. All of us knew when we saw that it didn’t look good, and the update on Roethlisberger after the game just verified that for us all. He was going to need season-ending surgery that could affect not only the next upcoming year, but potentially continuing his future NFL career.
The first episode of this series gives us more insight on the actual severity of the injury that Roethlisberger sustained. It provides us with detail on the passing of Coach Drake, and how that affected not only the team, but Roethlisberger as well. It shows us just how hard these last couple off-seasons have been for Roethlisberger and his family -- which is what I think this whole documentary mini series is about -- the comeback of Ben Roethlisberger, and I am all for it.
Enjoy!
