Marcus Allen Signs Restricted Free Agent Tender To Remain With Steelers

Although it was verbally agreed upon, pen has been put to paper in regards to the Pittsburgh Steelers retaining linebacker Marcus Allen on a one-year deal via a restricted free agent tender:

Allen will continue current role with Steelers

Allen is now tied to the team for another year. He didn’t have much of a choice, as many restricted free agents do not. Pittsburgh placed and original round tender on Allen, and the only way he could leave the team is if offered a contract. Even if accepted, Pittsburgh would have a chance to match that offer. Allen, along with fellow inside linebacker Robert Spillane who also just signed a tender, help shore up the depth at middle linebacker.

Allen has been with the team since 2018 when he was drafted as a safety in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Allen never really contributed or got on the field until 2020 when he converted from safety to linebacker. He has started 2 games in 2020 and 1 in 2021, as well as being a special teams contributor. Allen has posted 45 total tackles, 2 TFL’s, and 2 QB hits in his career, doing essentially all of this at the linebacker position barring two total tackles.

Allen will look to continue to improve at linebacker, and to be a positive contributor for the team in 2022.
