The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally made a stand on allowing fans at games for the beginning of the 2020 season. Having to already move training camp from Latrobe, PA to Heinz Field, the Steelers have had to make some tough decisions in this early 2020 season. The Steelers announced yesterday that they are not allowing fans at Heinz Field for the first two games of the 2020 season.
The coronavirus has forced many teams to make tough decisions on allowing fans at their home games for this season, but the NFL has not come out with a consensus stance. Many teams still have not stated what their plans are for the season, while others have. Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins have recently said they are allowing a limited amount of fans to attend home games, while others like the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens have stated they will not allow any fans all season long.
Multiple teams have stated that the NFL not taking a stance has created a competitive advantage for teams who are allowing fans, while others are attempting to be creative and pump in outside noise to compensate for empty stadiums. The Steelers recently practiced on Sunday with artificial noise to test out the strategy before the season kicks off against the New York Giants.
While fans will not be allowed for the first two games of the season, there is still hope that fans will be allowed in Heinz Field at some point in 2020. Even though the players would love to see Heinz Field packed with screaming yinzers, we can still bet the Steelers will dominate from beginning to end in 2020 and bring home their NFL-record seventh Lombardi Trophy.
