The Steelers already thin tight end position took another blow on Saturday as Xavier Grimble had wrist surgery.
Steelers TE Xavier Grimble underwent surgery to repair ligament in thumb/wrist area, per source. The hope is a Week 1 return but will be out a few weeks. Team already thin at TE with Vance McDonald nursing a foot injury.

Grimble likely had the easiest path to the third tight end spot as he's been for the past two seasons. The injury could cost him, though. Second year man Bucky Hodges has the talent as a receiver to make the 53 man roster, but his lack of blocking could be his downfall. While Hodges might have a higher ceiling as a receiver, Grimble has come a long way with his blocking the past two seasons.
Regardless the Steelers will have several decisions to make at the tight end position. Assumed starter (often-injured) Vance McDonald is reportedly dealing with plantar fasciitis and there has been no time-table set for his return.
