Steelers Training Camp to be Held at Heinz Field

By: Zach Herbaugh

Last week, the NFL announced that teams were no longer allowed to travel to outside areas for training camp. This announcement ended a 54-year tradition of the Pittsburgh Steelers attending camp in Latrobe, PA.

The Steelers announced today that they will be holding their training camp at Heinz Field in 2020. Rumors surfaced last week that the likely landing spot was going to be at the UPMC Rooney Complex located in South Side Pittsburgh. However, the Steelers announced late this afternoon that it would be taking place at Heinz Field instead.

Heinz Field does have two locker rooms which can help to enforce player distancing guidelines set by the NFL. However, the main difference will be that the Steelers will be limited to one field at Heinz Field, as opposed to multiple fields in Latrobe and at the UPMC Rooney Complex.

The Steelers are set to open training camp in late July and their first preseason game is against the Dallas Cowboys on August 6th at 8 pm EST. The Steelers will play their first regular-season home game at Heinz Field on September 20th at 1 pm EST against the Denver Broncos.

Do you think having training camp at Heinz Field will hurt the Steelers? Will it make game day at Heinz Field less special for the players? Comment below!
