The Pittsburgh Steelers roster is likely to look drastically different in 2021. With 19 players set to hit free agency, there are a lot of holes on offense and defense that the Steelers are going to have to fill. One free agent that has not been talked about much this offseason is defensive lineman, Tyson Alualu.
Alualu signed a two-year contract with the Steelers in 2019 and has far exceeded expectations during his time in Pittsburgh. The former first-round pick was a significant component of the front four for the Steelers in 2020 and his absence during injuries was extremely evident. Alualu was a mainstay at nose tackle in 2020 and ranked in the top 10 of interior defensive lineman in 2020 according to Pro Football Focus. Alualu started 10 games in 2020 and recorded two sacks, 38 tackles and 4 tackles for loss.
Alualu is going into his 12th season and will turn 34 this offseason, but his play for the Steelers over the past two seasons warrants a reunion for at least one more year. The Steelers have a lot of players that they should resign this offseason, but don't forget about a huge impact player in Alualu. His name might not be as flashy as some other high profile free agents, but his impact on the field is crucial to the Steelers success.
