Thursday, the NFL postponed the Pittsburgh Steelers game against the Tennessee Titans that was originally scheduled for this Sunday, October 4th. The news comes due to multiple players in the Titans organization testing positive for the coronavirus.
It was announced after the Minnesota Vikings vs Tennessee Titans game last Sunday that multiple players tested positive for COVID-19 following the Titans victory. It is known known that five overall players from the Titans organization have been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the newest one being rookie CB Kristian Fulton. This means that they will be out multiple weeks self quarantining. The Titans facility as a whole has been on shutdown as well, which means for them, this week is pretty much cancelled. The only good news that followed was that none of the Minnesota Vikings players tested positive following the game/interaction on Sunday.
This was followed by the NFL's announcement stating that this Sunday's game against the Titans would be postponed until further notice due to the coronavirus concerns. There was hope that the game might only get pushed out until Monday or Tuesday night, giving us a prime-time game for this season. That hope was cut short due to a fourth member of the team contracting the virus. There is still no date or time this game with the Titans will be played, it has just been announced that it has been postponed indefinitely. While obviously we want Steeler football, this could be a good week to get some guys back healthy again and back to competing for a Lombardi trophy as normal.
As fans, this comes as a disappointment. This was a big game vs two 3-0 football teams with high expectations for this upcoming year. It was going to be a good match-up to watch out for seeing how Derrick Henry and the Titans would match up against the rough and tough "Steel Curtain" defense. Although, it is not one that we have to miss.
There have been rumors floating around that this game might be made up later in the year. Obviously the NFL now has to correlate the schedules and find a solution to the problem, but if this were the case, we could be looking at a HUGE match-up with playoff implications deep in our schedule. Both these teams are 3-0 at the moment, leading their division, and look to be on a playoff path. If both these squads keep it up at the same pace, we could be in for a great game later in the year.
