Monday, QB Ben Roethlisberger received surgery just a week following the announcement that he would miss the remainder of the 2019 NFL season due to an elbow injury. Roethlisberger is expected to return fully healthy next season.
Per a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter:
"Ben Roethlisberger had surgery on his right elbow Monday in Los Angeles at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure in consultation with Steelers Team Physician Jim Bradley, who began his career at there."
The team also informed the following:
”Once Ben returns to Pittsburgh, he immediately will begin working with the Steelers’ medical staff on his rehabilitation, and he is expected to make a full recovery and return to the field for the 2020 NFL season.”
Following the poor offensive showing yesterday in San Fransisco behind second year QB Mason Rudolph, the Steelers fell to 0-3.
The team is expected to use this season to evaluate if there is a future behind Rudolph who was the Steelers 3rd round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Through six quarters of football, Rudolph has gone 26 of 46 (56.5%) for 286 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. A large amount of Rudolph's passing yards have come on three throws including a 76-yard touchdown to WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. The jury is still out on the young QB who will look to settle in during the Steelers primetime match up against the 0-3 Cincinnati Bengals next Monday night.
