Throughout this off-season, one of the biggest free agent acquisitions that the Pittsburgh Steelers have made in many years, was the signing of Pro Bowl TE Eric Ebron. All of SteelerNation was excited to see such a huge red zone weapon added to the arsenal of play makers we already have on the offensive side of the ball.
Standing at 6 foot 4, 245 pounds, Ebron provides QB Ben Roethlisberger with a target at the TE position capable of production that he and this team have not had since the days of good ol' Heath Miller. We all know the relationship that Miller had with Roethlisberger on the field, the two seemed inseparable. Miller was always Big Ben's comfort blanket whenever he was in need and was the true art of the position. Many were looking for Ebron to be the guy for Roethlisberger and as of late, he has been making his case.
The offense as a whole for Pittsburgh started off shaky to start out this 2020 season. It was obvious we had talent, but that it just might take a little while longer for the new faces to fit in. I'm sure if you ask Ebron, all he would care about is winning, but his stats have been consistent throughout this campaign and as of late, Ebron has put himself in better positions to make key plays.
What has been interesting for me to see is how the Steelers have used him as of late. Although being known as more of a red zone target throughout his career, Ebron has been showing off his play making ability so far this season more than anything. There are too many weapons for defenses to focus on with this Steelers offense, each guy really does compliment each other in a way that has helped this team become 8-0.
In the 8 games played this season, Ebron has totaled 29 receptions for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns. As stated before, as of late, Roethlisberger and Ebron seem to have a connection that has been working. In the last 3 games alone, Ebron has caught 13 passes for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns and just yesterday had a great leaping touchdown into the end zone against the Dallas Cowboys. He is too good of a football player to not give the ball to and has proved when we do, he will make plays. This team is 8-0 so it really is hard to try and point out any flaws, but if the Steelers can get this Big Ben/Eric Ebron connection going, there really might not be any way to stop this offense.
