Round 1: Ronnie Harrison (S)
- The Steelers have a gaping hope at safety. Harrison is an exceptional talent who can run stuff, cover, and hit hard. Harrison is a perfect fit, as he can play strong or free safety. Sean Davis, who is very talented himself, has been inconsistent may be moved from strong safety to free safety. Harrison can play either, though he is a better fit at SS.
Warner has got some Shazier-esque play-making ability, as shown in the picture above, where Warner is diving into the Touchdown after a pick-six against Boise State.
Round 2: Fred Warner (ILB)
- Warner is a possible long-term replacement for Ryan Shazier. He can play inside and outside, though he is better inside. If Shazier plays again, and Warner can rotate with Vince Williams on the inside and Dupree on the outside. Another perfect fit, but the Steelers have to hope he drops.
Round 3: Kyle Lauletta (QB)
- Lauletta is definitely a slight overdraft in the 3rd round, but with Dobbs not showing much, Lauletta can be the long-term solution to replace Big Ben. He’s smart, has a good arm, and is surprisingly mobile. With not 4th round pick, the Steelers will be smart to take him late in the 3rd
Round 5 (1 of 2): Hercules Mata’Afa (DE/EDGE/DT)
- While many believe Mata’afa is a top 3-round talent, he seems to be falling the the NFL scouting community. After a very disappointing combine, and some bad film at DT, he is flying down draft boards, after flying up just recently. Though he is a great pass rusher on the inside, his size will prevent him from continuing to play inside in the pros, and many question if he will be able to make the switch to EDGE. But, he is perfect for the Steelers, who haven;t much pass rush from Dupree. Mata’Afa can be part of a rotation in Pittsburgh, and on 3rd and Longs, he can sub in for Tuitt, who’s a monster in the run, but struggles he with pass rush as well. There, he can play inside and possibly dominate inside like he did in college.
Round 5 (2 of 2): Justin Jackson (HB)
- Jackson is a versatile rotation back that could be a good option, at least in the receiving game, when Bell leaves. Paired with a power back, he could be successful, similar to a Corey Clement, Jerick McKinnon, or Christian McCaffrey type of player.
Vandles-Scantling's monstrous size and unbelievable athleticism gives him the potential to replace Bryant in the long-term.
Round 7 (1 of 2): Maquez Valdes-Scantling (WR)
- Scantling , in terms of athleticism, is a carbon-copy of Martavis Bryant. He’s 6’4 and ran an unbelievable 4.37 forty yard dash. But he struggles with consistency and route running. He could be a project, but with the Steelers set at WR at least for this year, he’s the perfect 7th rounder for this team.
ROund 7 (2 of 2): Troy Apke (S)
- Apke, who dominated the combine, may fall to the 7th due to his lack of experience, having only really played one year. But, like for TJ Watt, this may entice the Steelers, as he is a great athlete with a lot of potential to improve.
