Injury news on Stefen Wisniewski has been quiet. Too quiet...

Since injuring his pectoral muscle in the opening game of the season while subbing in for an injured David DeCastro, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to place Wisniewski on Injured Reserve four days later on September 18, 2020.

Injured Reserve rules have changed this year. You can call back as many players as you want from IR, but they have to sit out at least three games. Wisniewski sat out four weeks, which included the surprise bye week (during the NFL's 4th week, thanks to a Covid-19 debacle in Tennessee). He returned to practice on October 14th.

Since he returned, the team has 21 days to promote him to the active roster. During this time, he is free to practice with the team, but doesn't count as a rostered player. The Steelers get an extra player in practice, but he can not participate in games until he is added to the roster.  Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated in press conferences that Wisniewski practiced on 10/14 and was expected to practice Week 7 (the 2nd week of his activation). Zero news has been heard of his practice status since those press conferences.

November 4th will mark 21 days since Wisniewski was activated, so tomorrow is the final day for the Steelers to decide whether he will be rostered, or placed back on Injured Reserve. When a player reverts to Injured Reserve in this manner, they can not be called back to the active roster, and their season is over.

Did the Steelers make the right decision calling him up on October 14th, or did they make a mistake and call him up too early? We will find out by the end of tomorrow if Wisniewski will return to this team, or be lost for the season.
