With The 83rd Pick The Steelers Select... Justin Layne, CB Michigan State

The Steelers go back to the land of Michigan to select another defensive player.  In a very talented cornerback draft class, Layne was one of the top guys I was surprised to see fall to the Steelers.  Layne collected 130 tackles, 3 INTs, and 24 pass breakups over 3 years, with 23 in the past two.  Justin Layne is a wide receiver convert, who has natural ball skills.  With room to grow at the position, Layne already brings an excellent ability to play the receiver and use his physicality to get to the ball and break up plays.  Layne could see starting time depending on how the depth chart falls behind Joe Haden, but expect some special team impact from Layne year one.  A few years down the road I see this being an absolute steal in the 3rd round.
