A Note to Steelers Fans Ahead of the 1st Round of the NFL Draft

It is Draft Day, #SteelerNation. After thousands of mock drafts and much speculation, fans of almost 32 different NFL teams will know by tonight who the new "big name" in most franchises is after the first round of the NFL Draft.

There are several NFL franchises that have had a history of poor scouting and unpredictable draft night selections. The Pittsburgh Steelers are not one of those franchises.

Will it be a running back tonight? Offensive lineman? Defensive back? We all have our favorites and guesses, but truly, who cares? The Steelers have not had a losing season since 2003 and almost always draft talent before anything else.

Some fans around the NFL are worried about their favorite team's choice(s) tonight. Steelers fans across the country have their opinions, but they all can agree that the Steelers draft the correct way and this draft will be no different than any other.

Ben Roethlisberger is almost done playing football professionally, but that won't intimidate Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin into trading up to draft a quarterback or taking the prized position too early.

If the Steelers do pick today (a trade back is certainly possible), it will be the best player available that fits the needs in which the team needs to excel this season and in the future.

Have the Steelers nailed every single pick in the first round in this century? Of course not. Artie Burns and Jarvis Jones come to mind. However, heading into tomorrow, the Steelers have been productive in the first round and will make a choice that, statistically, Steelers fans will be happy with going forward.

Maurkice PounceyCameron Heyward, David DeCastroRyan Shazier, Bud DupreeT.J. Watt and Devin Bush Jr.

Those are seven of the last 10 Steelers' first round picks. I would say the selections were pretty solid, smart and successful based on the years, necessities and players available.

#SteelerNation, the odds are extremely high that the Steelers choose the player that fits the culture in Pittsburgh. Sit back, relax, enjoy the pick and laugh at many other teams' fanbases be extremely critical and upset at their team's pick.
