We may finally have information directly from the boss's mouth soon. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Art Rooney II told Ben Roethlisberger the team wants him back in 2021. He is anticipated to release a statement today (Wednesday, February 24th) confirming this report while addressing Roethlisberger's future with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After Roethlisberger's agent released a statement yesterday claiming that the future HOFer has a strong desire to come back stronger and is willing to work on his contract to fit the team's needs, the Steelers making an official statement is expected.
Both Roethlisberger and the Steelers will likely have to be creative and compromise with his contract, as his final cap number can really be anywhere from his current $41.25M down to just under $24M. It is likely to fall somewhere in between those two numbers, and one would assume within the $29M-$33M range. That would give the Steelers a lot of cap relief, while not completely eliminating Roethlisberger's salary for 2021.
While Rooney's anticipated statement likely won't provide cap specifics, it will definitely be music to a lot of Steelers fans ears that their long time quarterback is in the 2021 plans for the organization.
