The Pittsburgh Steelers have completed their second interview with a fifth potential candidate for their open General Manager position. On Tuesday it was Steelers Vice President of Football and Business Administration Omar Khan who took his second turn interviewing. This one with Steelers President Art Rooney II, and Head Coach Mike Tomlin.
Khan has been with the Steelers since 2001 joining the team the year after Kevin Colbert took over as General Manager. Khan has had interviews with the Panthers, Texans, and Bears over the past two years for their General Manager openings. Khan was on considered to be the favorite to be hired as Houston’s General Manager in 2021, but the franchise changed course and pivoted back to Nick Caserio at the last minute.
The Steelers’ general manager search has seen a few outside candidates receive second interviews. Ryan Cowden (Titans), John Spytek, Andy Weidl (Eagles) and Doug Whaley have met with the Steelers twice about their GM vacancy.
The Steelers have interviewed 16 total candidates since they began interviews in February. Current General Manager Kevin Colbert will step down from his position when his contract expires on May 31. But it's rumored that Colbert will transition into a different role and stay with the team instead of retiring.
