Steelers Will Start Second Round Of Interviews With 2 Potential Candidates

The Pittsburgh Steelers will start their second round of interviews with two names according to Mike Garafolo of NFLNetwork. Tennessee Titans’ Ryan Cowden, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ John Spytek are at the top of the list for this round.

Spytek was elevated from director to Vice President of Player Personnel in 2021. He’s spent the past 6 seasons with Tampa Bay. Before his time in Tampa, Spytek worked for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions in scouting and operations. He has been in the NFL for 18 seasons total. Spytek graduated from Michigan University.

Cowden is in his sixth season with the Titans is currently their Vice President of Player Personnel. He has a long background in scouting spending 16 seasons with Carolina as a scout before joining the Titans in 2016. He’s a well-rounded candidate, for sure, overseeing all areas of the scouting department, both college and pro, including advance scouting, free agency preparation, and evaluation of players in the NFL. Cowden is also involved in preparation for the NFL Draft in Tennessee.

Cowden played football at Wofford University in Virginia and graduated with a degree in finance. He previously had an interview with the Giants this off-season for their general manager position.

The Steelers interviewed 16 candidates during their initial round of interviews. One of the most popular candidates amongst fans is former Philadelphia Eagles director of personnel, Louis Riddick. Riddick spoke recently about still hoping that the Steelers would select him. He should be also on the short list for a second interview.

The Steelers have always been a central part of my life. I grew up listening to WDVE tapes recorded off of the radio of Steelers fight songs, and wearing Steelers jerseys as a fashion statement. I joined the message board when I was 12, and this site has been a big part of my life ever since. I’ve found life long friends and met some of the best people on earth through this site. In 2015, I was able to help revive the site and develop a news website and all of our social media platforms. I can’t wait to continue to grow with all of you. Go Steelers!

Age, and being a native of PA, or the Burgh or having worked for the Steelers in the past, will probably determine the winner. My money is on Weidl or Hunt.
