The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed second-round pick Pat Freiermuth. Freiermuth's signing only leaves one pick, Kendrick Green, left to be signed out of the Steelers 2021 rookie class. Freiermuth is the highest drafted tight end by the Steelers since the Steelers drafted Heath Miller out of the University of Virginia in 2005.
Freiermuth leaves behind quite the legacy at Penn State. Freiermuth played in 30 games for the Nittany Lions throughout his career including being named First-Team All Big 10, as well as the Big 10 Tight End of the Year. He also collected over 1,100 yards during his three seasons and set a Penn State tight end record by scoring 16 touchdowns during his career.

Freiermuth looks to come in right away and compete with incumbent tight end Eric Ebron for playing time. Expect the Steelers to deploy some 12 personnel looks as well to allow for both of these playmakers to get some time on the field together. Freiermuth adds a blocking element to the tight end position that the Steelers will clearly be missing after the retirement of Vance McDonald.
