Steelers Continue To Be Connected With Former 1st Overall Pick Offensive Tackle Eric Fisher

The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be content when it comes to their offensive line, but ESPN continues to connect former Kansas City Chiefs 1st overall pick Eric Fisher to them. But Pittsburgh don't appear like they're looking to add any competition for returning starter Dan Moore Jr. On the opposite side they just re-signed Chukwuma Okorafor to a 3 year contract.

Last month ESPN's Bill Barnwell listed 10 perfect destinations for some of the top free agents left available. There the Steelers were listed as the projected home for Fisher.

Now this morning ESPN+ listed the best fits for the top 10 remaining free agents. No surprise the Steelers were found on the list with Fisher. ESPN's Matt Bowen had this to say about Pittsburgh as a/a> fit for Fisher.

Best fit: Pittsburgh Steelers

Fisher didn't play his best football for the Colts last season after coming back from an Achilles injury suffered during the 2020 playoffs while with the Chiefs. But if we are looking at this as a depth/competition move, Pittsburgh could be in the mix here as a possible landing spot for Fisher. The Steelers have to continue to upgrade their offense line after already signing center Mason Cole and guard James Daniels in free agency.

I like the idea of adding the 31-year-old Fisher to push second-year left tackle Dan Moore in camp, as the Steelers will show the full playbook of Matt Canada's offensive system with a new starting quarterback in either Mitch Trubisky or rookie Kenny Pickett. Fisher has posted a pass block win rate of at least 87% in each of his past four seasons.

At this point in the offseason Fisher isn't going to be commanding a large amount of money. Pittsburgh could likely get Fisher on a team friendly two year contract. And as Bowen says giving Moore some competition wouldn't be a bad thing. Often times position competition brings out the best in players and Moore hasn't had any since he was handed the starting left tackle spot last year.

Last season Fisher played with Indianapolis but spent his entire career in Kansas City before that. While Fisher was an asset in run blocking for the Colts, his pass protection has taken a nosedive.Carson Wentz was sacked 7 times last season. With Najee Harris poised to have a huge season it wouldn't be bad thing to add an extra blocker that is a strong blocker in the run game.

Fisher also has position flexibility as he can play either tackle position if need be.
