The Pittsburgh Steelers made their second move of the offseason today by signing exclusive rights free agent Jamir Jones to a one-year contract. Jones dressed for each of the Steelers 17 regular season games during the 2022 season.

Jones was claimed off waivers prior to the beginning of the 2022 season after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jones was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. He's appeared in 32 career games to this point. Jones joins long snapper Christian Kuntz as the only other player to receive a new contract from the Steelers to this point. Kuntz was also an exclusive rights free agent.
An exclusive rights free agent means he has fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. As long as the Steelers offer him a one-year contract for the league minimum, he can't negotiate with other teams. And for clarification, an accrued season is when you're on the active roster for more than six games. Jones only has two accrued seasons.
