The Pittsburgh Steelers will almost certainly be in the market for a new offensive coordinator during the 2024 NFL offseason. Eddie Faulkner and Mike Sullivan are clearly not the future at the position after two lousy performances back to back in Weeks 13 and 14 - rather just a bridge to someone new as the organization attempts to get rid of the stink of Matt Canada. There are many candidates for the job, and hopefully the Steelers plan to hire someone from outside of the organization this time around. NFL analyst Robert Mays and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel discussed the Steelers future at offensive coordinator, and quarterback.

Steelers' Should Hire Greg Roman According To Mays
Many Steelers fans are excited to see what the organization does with the offensive coordinator position after the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season. Mays threw out a name that most Steelers fans probably won't like, Greg Roman. Roman was with the Baltimore Ravens for six seasons and served as their offensive coordinator from 2019 through 2022. He would certainly be a polarizing hire for Pittsburgh.
The reason Mays and Daniel began discussing Roman as a potential hire for Pittsburgh on The Athletic Football Show is because they talked about Justin Fields and how if he becomes available, the Steelers should find a way to land him.
"A team that I think is particularly interesting, because they're definitely looking for a new offensive coordinator this year, is the Steelers. If the Steelers decide, 'Hey, we did the Kenny Pickett thing. Even if we didn't put him in the best position, we still think this isn't our best path forward,' and I've got a name for you if you're picking a coordinator to do this with. Greg Roman. You get to a place where he has over stayed his welcome [Baltimore] and you're trying to take the next step as an offense. But, what if you're trying to take your first step as an offense with this kind of quarterback?"
There has been a lot of discussion about Fields' future with the Chicago Bears, and as a team with two high first-round picks, it is likely they look to get one of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. If that happens, it's unknown whether the Bears would want to hang onto Fields for competition in the quarterback room, or use him in a trade to bring in more draft capital. If the Bears decide to make Fields available via trade, Omar Khan and the Steelers would have to at least inquire with Chicago.

Roman's time in Baltimore ended cleanly, as he stepped down and resigned following the 2022 NFL season. In his first season as the team's offensive coordinator in 2019, the Ravens were one of the best offenses in the entire league. Lamar Jackson won MVP in what was just his second season. The Ravens offense was prolific when led by Roman and it's players were healthy. The main reason his time in Baltimore ended was because it seemed he was developing Jackson into too much of a runner, and the team wanted a more passing-oriented offense

Hiring an offensive coordinator like Roman makes a lot of sense in this scenario. It also works if the Steelers decide they want to draft a quarterback, as they were recently linked to Heisman Trophy recipient Jayden Daniels. Roman showed he knows how to coach and call an offense that utilizes an athletic and mobile quarterback in 2019 when he coached Jackson to his MVP season. If the Steelers acquire Fields, or a different dual-threat quarterback, then Roman should be high on their list of candidates for the offensive coordinator position.
These moves would make a lot of sense for the Steelers. However, it is more than likely that the team will stick with Kenny Pickett in the near future. He hasn't exactly been put in a great situation with Canada's offense, and Pittsburgh would probably like to see what he can do in a competent NFL system.
