The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very important decision to make during the 2024 offseason as they will be interviewing candidates to become their next offensive coordinator. Head Coach Mike Tomlin has already confirmed the team will be looking outside of the organization to fill the position, which is good news since the Steelers offense looks prehistoric compared to other offenses around the league. They have already been connected to two potential candidates, Los Angeles Rams' Zac Robinson and former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury. Now, NBC Sports' Peter King has two new names the organization should consider.

Steelers Are Given Two Names To Consider For Offensive Coordinator By Peter King
Tomlin deciding to look outside the organization for the team's next play-caller is exciting news for fans, especially since the last time they hired a new offensive coordinator from within turned out to be Matt Canada.
Tomlin stated he is looking for someone that can make the offense more dynamic and versatile. Here's who King gave the Steelers as two new options to consider for the OC position.
"Tomlin has announced he’s coming back for 2024 and will welcome a new contract and, most importantly, will seek an outside offensive coordinator to come in and craft a modern offense. Interview Klint Kubiak of the [San Francisco 49ers] and Jake Peetz of the [Los Angeles] Rams, Steelers; you’ll thank me later."
Klint Kubiak is a hot name for many teams around the NFL searching for their next offensive coordinator. He currently serves as the San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator, and has proven to be effective as the 49ers threw for over 4,400 yards to go with 33 touchdowns. Jake Peetz works as the pass game specialist for the Rams and has held the job since the 2022 season. Both of these options are crucial components of two of the best passing offenses in the NFL, and would certainly revitalize the Steelers' horrific passing offense.

In addition to both of these potential candidates being extremely effective in their current roles, they both stem from two of the most coveted coaching trees in the NFL. Kubiak is the latest great candidate from under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. Coaches that have served under Shanahan usually have tremendous success wherever they go, with the most recent examples being both Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins and DeMeco Ryans with the Houston Texans.
Kubiak's predecessor in San Francisco was Bobby Slowik, who is now the offensive coordinator in Houston. Slowik has been praised as one of the best coordinators in the league and he will likely receive a head coaching job somewhere if he wants one. It's a safe assumption that Kubiak will be effective wherever he ends up based on the recent history of success of coaches that have served under Shanahan.

Peetz also comes from a reliable coaching tree, as he has served under Sean McVay for the last two seasons. He has been extremely effective in his role as a pass game specialist. The Rams threw for 4,300 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2023. Peetz also played a major role in the success of Rams rookie wide receiver, Puka Nacua, as he broke nearly every record for a rookie receiver in the NFL. Peetz comes from the tutelage of McVay, who has produced some of the greatest coaches in the NFL. His coaching tree products include Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, and Kevin O'Connell.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin is looking to change the Steelers' offensive philosophy.
Both of these candidates would be great for the job, and should be able to do exactly what Tomlin is looking for. Tomlin wants to revitalize his offense, and add some new schemes so the Steelers aren't behind the eight ball offensively like they have been over the past several seasons. Tomlin is looking to inject some young blood into this offense, and both Peetz, 39, and Kubiak, 36, would be great options to do so.
