Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Cameron Sutton spent six seasons with the team before joining the Detroit Lions. After just one season with the Lions, Sutton was released, not due to his performance on the field, but because of legal issues. In early March, an arrest warrant was issued for Sutton following an alleged domestic violence incident.

Two weeks later, the Lions released Sutton, and reports indicated he had failed to turn himself in during that period. On the last day of March, Sutton surrendered and was booked in jail. While there are still many questions regarding Sutton's legal situation, some Steelers pundits have suggested a reunion could be possible now that he is no longer with the Lions.

However, the Steelers are unlikely to take on that extra baggage unless they are confident his legal issues will be resolved. The team could use help in their secondary, but bringing Sutton back to Pittsburgh may not be the best course of action, despite the hopes of many fans.

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly of The Athletic revealed on social media Tuesday that Sutton has put his Pittsburgh home on the market. While speculative, this suggests a return to Pittsburgh for Sutton seems unlikely.

Sutton putting his house up for sale doesn't entirely rule out a return to Pittsburgh, but it's not a typical move for someone planning to work in the city again. He could be looking for a new house if he returns, but reading between the lines, it seems Sutton might know the Steelers won't bring him back. Additionally, selling a home indicates a significant life change, suggesting he might be preparing for a new chapter elsewhere.

Sutton has enjoyed a solid NFL career. His time in Pittsburgh began slowly as a rotational player, but in his final two seasons, he became a consistent starter. The Steelers were not thrilled about losing him in free agency. However, Sutton chose to go to Detroit to be closer to his family, believing it would be better for him. Despite his departure, many Steelers fans hoped for his return, but current developments indicate it might be unlikely.

When Sutton left the Steelers, he signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Lions. This was a significant contract for him, but his performance during his lone season in 2023 didn’t quite meet expectations. In 2023, Sutton recorded one interception, six passes defensed, one forced fumble, and a total of 65 tackles. While these stats indicate he was a solid player, he didn’t live up to the hype in his first year.

The Lions quickly decided to part ways with Sutton, leading some to speculate that they were eager to move on from him regardless of his legal troubles. When these issues arose, the Lions seized the opportunity to sever ties. Although the Steelers would undoubtedly love to have Sutton back, his ongoing legal issues make it unlikely that they will extend an invitation for his return. Sutton seems to be aware of this situation, as he has put his house in Pittsburgh up for sale.

Steelers Still Could Bring Another DB Back To Pittsburgh

Steelers fans are still hoping the team will bolster their secondary. Another name to watch is veteran Patrick Peterson. Peterson played one season for the Steelers in 2023 before being released. He has made it clear that he hopes to secure a deal to return to Pittsburgh for another season. However, it remains uncertain whether the Steelers share this interest.
