Following another disappointing exit at the playoff stage, the Pittsburgh Steelers are facing somewhat of a pivotal offseason that will determine their future. Despite a 10-7 regular reason, a 28-14 loss at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round highlighted several weaknesses that must be addressed if the franchise is to progress.

Now, with key roster decisions looming, the Steelers must solve problems such as their quarterback dilemma, improve their receiving corps, strengthen the defense, and figure out what lies ahead for Najee Harris. The moves made in free agency, the draft, and coaching adjustments will shape next season.

And for fans tracking NFL betting online, what moves Pittsburgh make in the offseason will have a major impact on their playoff chances and Super Bowl odds. But will these moves finally break their postseason slump, or will it be another year of frustration?

The Quarterback Conundrum

The biggest storyline of the offseason surrounds who will be Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback next season. The Steelers brought in Russell Wilson and also acquired Justin Fields in the hope that one of them could take control of the offense. However, neither truly cemented themselves as the longer-term answer.

Wilson added leadership and experience, finishing the campaign with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions, but his performances in big games were underwhelming. Fields, on the other hand, showed flashes of ability, but lacked consistency. Now it’s up to the Steelers to decide whether to re-sign one, both, pursue another veteran or draft a new signal-caller.

Offensive Upgrades Required

The Steelers’ offensive struggles were evident throughout last season. While George Pickens emerged as a dynamic playmaker, there was no reliable No. 2 receiver after Diontae Johnson was traded.

Right now, the Steelers are being linked with a move for Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals. Higgins, renowned for his size, speeds, and red-zone presence, would give the Steelers the boost they’re looking for. However, he could be looking for around $30 million per year. Therefore, they could explore cheaper free-agent options or use a high draft pick.

Is It Time to Move on From Najee Harris?

The Steelers’ backfield is another area of uncertainty heading into next season. Najee Harris’ fifth-year option was declined, signaling that there is the potential to move in another direction. While Harris has been a solid workhorse back, he’s so far yet to develop into the explosive, game-breaking runner many expected.

At the same time, Jaylen Warren emerged as a legitimate threat and proved to be more dynamic in the passing game. If Harris expects a big contract, in the region of $10 million, the Steelers may opt for a cheaper committee approach of even draft as a replacement. So, it’s time to decide whether Harris is worth a long-term investment.

With free agency and the draft on the horizon, all eyes are on how Pittsburgh will navigate these particular challenges. If they make the right moves at the right time, they could position themselves as legitimate contenders.
