How Will The Pittsburgh Steelers Now Fare In The 2025 NFL Season?

The offseason in the NFL is inevitably a time for change, for refresh and like every other franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers have shuffled the pack once again in the summer of 2025.

However, a bigger picture looms larger for the Steelers, who last tasted Super Bowl glory nearly 20 years ago in 2008 and they will be desperate to battle it out of the sharp end of the NFL again this term.

In the main, the last two seasons have been largely forgettable for the Steelers, who have bombed out in the Wild Card round in each of them, failing to force their way into any sort of deep playoff contention.

Investment within the current playing squad and outside acquisitions do look to have given the Steelers a decent look about them ahead of next season, but can they step up and challenge for a whole NFL campaign?

Winning the Super Bowl would be a huge scalp for the Steelers next season, and they are well in the mix according to plenty of punters and legal betting sites.

Aaron Rodgers to hold the key

He may be over 40 years of age, but there is no doubting the expertise of Aaron Rodgers, who the Steelers will be hoping they can get a serious tune out of next year. An injury hit in 2023 saw plenty of people writing off Rodgers, but he bounced back impressively with the New York Jets last season statistically.

Rodgers was eventually released and the Steelers swooped in to secure his services for the 2025 campaign. For all the promise shown by the Steelers in recent seasons, the general consensus was that they needed some experience in their ranks, and few come better versed than Rodgers.

Although it is 15 years since Rodgers won his sole Super Bowl, he has been named the NFL’s MVP on four occasions and if he can rekindle his form from last season, the Steelers shouldn’t be too far away.

TJ Watt hits the jackpot

While inconsistency has blighted the Steelers over the past few seasons, there is one part of their operation that has been unerringly consistent. TJ Watt joined the Steelers back in 2017 and his performances have been at an astronomical level ever since and his importance for the Steelers cannot be understated.

The NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, Watt’s influence with the Steelers looks set to grow even more and he has been awarded a new contract extension in 2025. With his new deal anticipated to be worth over $120 million, Watt has cemented his future in black and gold, and he will be looking to reward the club with more strong performances next season.

There were plenty of potential suitors for Watt this offseason, but he has ended one of the key trade speculation issues in the NFL and he should be raring to go in 2025.

Still plenty of work to do

For all the positivity surrounding the Steelers ahead of the new NFL campaign, the facts remain that they have been quite a ways off the pace in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. Winning the Super Bowl back in 2008 does now seem like a distant memory, but ending that 18-year hiatus and bringing that famous old Lombardi Trophy back to Pittsburgh next season would end plenty of recent pain for Steelers fans.

Last season was all about the Philadelphia Eagles, who came up clutch against the all-conquering Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl and those two sides will be the standard bearers again next term.

Outside of those two high flyers are the Baltimore Ravens, a side that have threatened seriously without really delivering the goods in recent years and they have strengthened in key areas. Elsewhere, perennial underachievers the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions have gone big in the NFL Draft, with huge expectations surrounding them and both do look in a decent position to break their ducks.

Being in and around the Super Bowl conversation would be a key step in the right direction for the Pittsburgh Steelers and they will be looking for a fast start to the new NFL campaign in 2025, and they could well be bang in the mix.
