Could Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Become The Oldest Super Bowl Winning QB In History?

It’s the sort of fun question that might appear on a pop quiz - who is the oldest winning quarterback in Super Bowl history? The answer is Tom Brady, who led Tampa Bay to glory at Super Bowl LV at the sprightly age of 43. All of which means that Aaron Rodgers, who turns 42 in December, will not be the oldest Super Bowl winning quarterback should the Steelers prevail next year. But he’d be the second oldest, so could victory at Super Bowl LX be on the cards?

The Pass Grandmaster

The NFL odds from Paddy Power make Pittsburgh a +6000 chance to land the Vince Lombardi trophy in February – 15 franchises, headed by the Kansas City Chiefs (+550) are considered more likely.

But sports betting tips columns love an underdog to back, and the Steelers’ 5-3 start to the campaign at least offers some encouragement of a playoff appearance.

Much of their early season success has come courtesy of Rodgers, who has bounced back from his New York Jets disappointment to deliver numbers adjacent to some of his career highs in the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.

For context, he ranks 18th in the NFL (at the time of writing) for passes attempted, and tied third for completed touchdown passes – evidence of the veteran’s accuracy. If he can continue at these rates, Rodgers could deliver one of the best all-time seasons of his vaunted career in terms of pass efficiency, as well as crossing the 30-touchdown milestone for just the third time since 2016. Not bad for a guy of 41 who, having played through a catalogue of injuries, might have felt his career was over when released by the Jets at the end of the 2024 term. Rodgers has confirmed that the 2025 campaign will be his last in football, could he go out on the ultimate high at Super Bowl LX?

With Friends Like These

Of course, any good quarterback still needs to be surrounded by a quality cast of receivers to really shine. After nine weeks of action in NFL 2025-26, the Steelers have played eight games and had nine different players record a reception touchdown.

Pat Freiermuth, Calvin Austin III, and Jonnu Smith are just three Pittsburgh players to have crossed into the end zone on multiple occasions so far this season, but it’s the form of D.K. Metcalf that has most caught the eye.

The 27-year-old is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, with his last appearance coming back in 2023. But Steelers fans will be well aware that if Metcalf can continue at his current rate, he could eclipse the standards he set for himself during that 2023 campaign with Seattle. He’s delivered five touchdowns in eight starts, putting himself in a position to best his 2023 return of eight TDs in 16 games. Metcalf could also better his previous Pro Bowl numbers in reception success rate and yards per target; confirming that Rodgers is getting the best out of his main ally. Is it a combination that could carry Pittsburgh deep into the post-season picture?
