Steelers Could Soon Regret Letting Justin Fields Eventually Join Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs recently made a trade that left fans wowed and could change the dynamic of the entire AFC. They gave up a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to scoop up former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Justin Fields. Chiefs execs will be nodding their heads in delight when looking back at this deal, considering Fields rushed for 1,000 yards once upon a time.

Former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields (#2) runs with the football during a regular season football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.

The Chiefs traded for Fields to be a backup under QB1 Patrick Mahomes. In a week 15 game against the Chargers, Mahomes suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his left knee.

While he's had surgery already, it'll take him about 9 months to recover fully. This should see him on the starting lineup when the 2026/2027 season starts.

But with recovery timelines being uncertain, KC swooped into action to secure Fields, a QB with similar throwing attributes as Mahomes.

Keep reading as we take a look at how Justin Fields is set to turn the AFC on its head.

A New Slate in Kansas City

Fields is 27 years old and has already been to four different NFL teams: Chicago Bears (2021 to 2023), Pittsburgh Steelers (2024), New York Jets (2025), and the Kansas City Chiefs (present).

Justin Fields must be surely tired of being bounced around like some type of candy bar. But the ex-Jets player seems excited with his new transition. Here's what he had to say after he finalized his trade:

“I wanted to come here because of the culture, because of Pat and to learn from him and coach Reid. Just the winning, to be honest. We, of course knew of each other, but we really didn't communicate before coming here. I'm excited to learn from (Mahomes). I'm already kind of picking his brain a little bit and just observing how he goes about things in the meeting rooms, field and stuff like that. I'm excited, of course, to work with coach Reid and [offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy] and all the guys on offense.”

It's no surprise that Fields wants to taste success in the NFL. The only time he came close to winning the Super Bowl was in Pittsburgh where he got to the playoffs. With Mahomes and Reid winning three SBs in the space of five seasons (2019 to 2024), Fields is definitely looking for a team that'll get him the ring that has long eluded him.

Justin Fields Could Shine With Mahomes on the Sidelines

One thing that separates Justin Fields from other traditional quarterbacks is his play. Similar to Vick, he plays like a running back. This means that he tends to run the ball whenever he can. Little wonder he got 1,143 rushing yards during the 2022 NFL season where he donned the Bears’ uniform. This made him the 2nd QB in the league’s history to ever do so, with only Lamar Jackson (1,206 yards) being ahead.

Justin Fields’ career might not be star-studded, but you can't say he hasn't had some highlights. He's thrown 52 career touchdowns since he came into the NFL and in his ultimate season as a New York Jet, he threw for 1,259 yards. And what's better? Fields isn't known for throwing interceptions. When he's got a target in sight, he can throw a missile directly at them without issues.

Fields was able to get these numbers while playing for teams with a shaky offense. Now think about what will happen when he goes to the Chiefs and plays with talents like Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, Isiah Pacheco, and Rashee Rice. His new coach, Andy Reid, is also a master of creating deadly attacking schemes. So, with Fields in the field of play, he'll pad up his stats.

Mahomes isn't 100% currently and he'll miss some games, with several at the start of the season. Fields will reign in his stead and won't just hold the forte; he'll lead the Chiefs to victory. In moments where his attacking weapons are covered, Fields will use his legs to chase first downs and when he can, the end zone. Exciting times ahead.

The AFC Is Watching Closely

The Kansas City Chiefs have two capable QBs and that's sending shockwaves across the NFL, most especially the AFC.

In the AFC West where the Chiefs play in, they've got rivals like the Chargers, Raiders, and Broncos all vying for supremacy. Mahomes playing every single game will see them prep the same.

But Fields being in the mix is an X in the equation. A QB who once rushed for 1,100+ yards in a single season isn't a backup, he's a threat that'll decimate a team if he gets the opportunity to do so.

The betting world is taking note of what's going on in the NFL trading world. With Fields in the picture, bookies are giving the KC Chiefs favorable odds to head to the Super Bowl and even get a hold of the Lombardi Trophy. That said, football fans are putting money on how many rushing yards Fields could hit this season with a capable o-line in front of him.

A lot of these bets are happening on bookies with a cryptocurrency theme. Little wonder you'd find players searching for online crypto gambling sites. These sites don't make use of fiat currencies. Rather, you're in line for swift and anonymous deposits and withdrawals using cryptos like Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and Litecoin.

Looking at the Big Picture

The Kansas City Chiefs go into each NFL season as a contender for the Lombardi Trophy. Andy Reid picking Justin Fields as his QB2 shows how much faith the organization has in the quarterback. And with his credentials being questioned by NFL pundits, now's the time for Fields to prove his naysayers wrong.

Even if Patrick Mahomes manages to play all KC’s games in the 2026/2027 season, Fields will still be at an advantage.

Why? Because he would've seen the maestro play so many snaps and learned invaluable things from him that he can use at the Chiefs or another franchise.

It's interesting how Justin Fields’ stint at the Chiefs will pan out and we're all here for it!
