Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive lineman, Cam Heyward, will be apart of honoring his father as he's inducted into Pitt's Hall of Fame.
Pitt running back Craig 'Ironhead' Heyward was notoriously known as a college football stud in the 1980's. But before being recognized or inducted into Pitt's Hall of Fame, he passed away from cancer in 2006.
Heyward has always been vocal about how impactful his father was to him. Back in 2018, Heyward wrote about the memories he had with his father before he passed away.
"I just kind of shook my head, but it was clear that nothing — be it a wheelchair, or brain cancer, or anything else — was going to stop him from being himself," Heyward wrote. "Even very late in his life, after he became paralyzed on his right side and could no longer speak, my dad would still let you know how he felt about you. So, with my brothers and me, that would mean giving us huge hugs on a daily basis. And for refs, well, it would mean getting flipped off following a questionable call," Heyward said.
The induction ceremony will take place on October 17th, as scheduled right now, when Pitt hosts Notre Dame at Heinz Field.
“I never got to see him play in college,” Heyward said, to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “But to see the lasting imprint that he has had, and to be mentioned with so many greats that deserved to be here. It is amazing.”
Craig Heyward was in the NFL for 11 years. He was with the Saints, Bears, Falcons, Colts, and Rams, and made the Pro Bowl in 1995.
