Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been nothing short of fantastic and electrifying throughout his short time in the NFL, and there's no reason to believe he won't continue to impress. Johnson has already seen 25 targets from Ben Roethlisberger which is first amongst all Steelers pass catchers. If we have learned anything over the years, if Roethlisberger looks for any receiver as often as he looks for Johnson, then it's clear the production will follow the opportunities.
Johnson is absolutely dangerous for opposing defenses anytime he touches the ball. The Steelers have figured out quickly he is their best bet on kick returns and have been known to call his name on trick plays to exhibit his speed out of the backfield. While Roethlisberger undoubtedly looks for JuJu Smith-Schuster in the red-zone, Johnson's elusiveness in open-field is a big contributing factor in putting points on the board.
Pittsburgh relied on Johnson for the majority of last season as the team fought an uphill battle with injuries mainly at the quarterback position, stacking the odds against him with Roethlisberger missing most of Johnson's rookie season. Although the secret on Johnson's potential has been known dating back to his college days at Toledo, it's safe to say the Steelers struck gold once again drafting yet another stud receiver and playmaker.
