I have previously published articles talking about the best propositional bets for the Pittsburgh Steelers going into the 2020 season. This article will touch on the biggest no-brainer bet that every Steelers fan should place. The bet is simple: Will the Steelers make the playoffs in 2020?
Every rational Steelers fan would say yes, of course, they will make the playoffs. However, I am going to lay out some reasons as to why betting on the Steelers to make the playoffs in 2020 is a smart bet based on concrete reasoning.
First off, the Steelers haven’t missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons since the beginning of the century. Head coach Mike Tomlin has never missed the playoffs three seasons in a row in his career. The Steelers are one of the few franchises that haven’t had a losing season in over 15 years and this certainly is not going to be the season that a losing season or missing the playoffs for the third year in a row are going to occur.
Secondly, the NFL expanded the number of playoff teams in each conference from 6 to 7 for the foreseeable future. Not that I believe the Steelers will be one of the 6 or 7 best teams in the conference, but the fact that there’s an extra playoff spot just bolsters the Steelers chances of making the playoffs. If the current 7 team format would have been in place in 2018 and 2019, then the Steelers would have made the playoffs the past two seasons.
Next, the Steelers were on the cusp of making the playoffs last year without two huge pieces of their team. The Steelers played 14 games with starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and 10 games without starting defensive lineman, Stephon Tuitt. Both Roethlisberger and Tuitt’s contributions to the Steelers are impossible to quantify. Roethlisberger has been a top quarterback in the NFL for the better part of two decades and it’s undeniable the Steelers offense will be leaps and bounds better than last year. Tuitt was one of the best players on the Steelers defense last season, and his loss was detrimental to their chances of really hitting their stride as a unit.
Everything is coming together for the Steelers to make a deep playoff run in 2020. The Steelers have improved in every facet of the game since their final game in 2019. Rest easy knowing that putting money on the Steelers to make the playoffs is as good as money in your pocket.
