The news continues to roll out of the Steel City this weekend as news has broke that Ben Roethlisberger will likely decide to return for the 2021 season.

Roethlisberger said after the loss to Cleveland that he would talk with family and friends, but he hoped the Steelers would want him back. The Steelers seemingly do want Roethlisberger back, and why would Roethlisberger want to end his career on that performance.

Per Garafolo, Roethlisberger has already communicated that if he returns he wants wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on board as well.

That means Roethlisberger would need to sign an extension that would only be in theory. His cap hit is 41 million, but he’s being paid 19 million. The rest is money he’s already been paid that was pushed into future years for book purposes only.

If Roethlisberger returns, that means the team might have to mortgage a year down the road and push a bunch of money into future years with restructuring of contracts. If they don’t, him coming back will be a moot point with a team forced to rebuild because of the reduced salary cap. Time will tell, but Omar Khan and Kevin Colbert usually don’t let us down.

The Steelers have always been a central part of my life. I grew up listening to WDVE tapes recorded off of the radio of Steelers fight songs, and wearing Steelers jerseys as a fashion statement. I joined the message board when I was 12, and this site has been a big part of my life ever since. I’ve found life long friends and met some of the best people on earth through this site. In 2015, I was able to help revive the site and develop a news website and all of our social media platforms. I can’t wait to continue to grow with all of you. Go Steelers!

Ben has been a great QB and has done a ton for Steeler football, thank you Ben!

But, it is now clearly time to spend your days with your family watching football. We all age, go out on top gracefully and enjoy.

Move forward into the future, instead of holding onto the past, and let’s get the Steeler rebuild going, rip that band aid off! Mason, Joshua, time to turn it up a notch, or three!

I love all these meaningless “reports” this time of year. Why in the world would JuJu want to take the prime of his career and throw it down the drain to play with a 39 yr old QB who kills his stats for one year, and then who knows what after? He can sign somewhere else and get more money, better numbers, a franchise QB who will be be around for duration of deal, and probably another good contract to end career after. Pittsburgh can offer none of the above. There is as much of a chance of JuJu re-signing as the Steelers doing what needs to be done to rebuild this team properly. Zero.

I’d like to see him back. However, if he has to sign an extension I think he should renegotiate so he gives up some money, so that they can bay the best offensive line possible. They may have a shot for one more year with a line that can give them a top running game to take a load off of Ben. Ben , give up a bit so you can go out on top with ring number 3. We can live with a couple rough years to get that trophy .
